Travel eSIM terms
Short definitions so checkout and install feel less mysterious.
- APN
- Access Point Name — network settings a phone uses to reach the mobile internet. Most modern eSIMs configure this automatically.
- Dual SIM
- Using two lines at once — typically a physical SIM plus an eSIM. Common setup: home number for calls/SMS, Roamio for data.
- eSIM
- A digital SIM profile installed on a compatible phone — no physical card. Used for travel data plans like Roamio.
- Hotspot / tethering
- Sharing your phone’s mobile data with a laptop or another device. Not all eSIM plans allow it — check the plan details.
- IMEI
- A unique device identity number. Sometimes used by carriers for unlock status — not usually needed to install a Roamio eSIM.
- Roaming
- Using your home carrier network abroad — often billed per day or per MB unless your plan includes fair-use roaming.
